A Few of My Favorite Things From Tokyo So Far
I did a double take when I saw this set of vending machines.  The range of options is what really struck me. Evidently the Japanese still find un-exploded bombs leftover from the massive number we (the U.S.A.) dropped on them tucked away in their backyards.  The picture in the lower right-hand corner shows an excavation crew pulling one out for disposal. This is the Nakamise market in...

Japan
We made it to Tokyo!  I know we haven’t finished writing about Thailand yet, but here’s a quick update on Tokyo anyways. So, our flight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok was cancelled and we were moved to a later flight, which was a probleme because we had to get to another flight from Chiang Mai to Kuala Lumpur and then from there to Tokyo.  We were only going to have an hour to connect in...

Update Part 2
Since our flight was delayed (see below) we have enough time for another post.  Here’s my update for the middle of our time in Thailand, we’ll get more up soon about the wedding!  We’ve had an amazing time in Thailand! On Wednesday, our second full day in Chiang Mai, we went into the Old City section (it’s surrounded by a moat!) and visited wats (temples).  Chiang Mai has...

Update
Hi folks, sorry it has been far and few between—our internet access has been unreliable and slow when we have had it, and we have been very busy as well.  Now we are in the Chiang Mai airport awaiting our flight to Bangkok, where we will connect to our Tokyo flight.  Unfortunately, the situation is a bit stressful: our 12:25 flight was cancelled and we will have to take a later flight to...

Thailand, Day .5 and Day 1
We arrived in Chiang Mai last night around 6pm.  It’s one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever seen.  Here’s a partial list of the last day and a bit: Eating khao soi (curry noodles) at a roadside stand Staying in the most awesomely decorated guest house ever Eating rice porridge with egg and scallions and sweet coffee for breakfast Coconut ice cream, in a freshly opened...

Singapore, Day 3
Dave here.  Sunday was our last day in Singapore.  Suzanne and I spent it wandering around the city by ourselves, and then finished up with a laid back evening at Mark and Swee Leen’s place. We started our day with a breakfast of nasi lemak at a hawker market on 6th St. in Singapore.  This is a traditional dish that Malaysians and Singapore residents eat at breakfast time.  It’s one...

Jellyfish
Finally got one uploaded…took forever though, and our Thai hotel doesn’t seem to have great internet speeds…so this may be it for a little while.  More video ASAP!

Quick Update
Hi folks, it’s early here, and we are on our way to Thailand shortly (woohoo!).  Stay tuned for more on our last day in Singapore, including an exciting trip to the grocery store, and hopefully I’ll be able to get some videos uploaded too (I’ve been having trouble with that)!  Until then, here’s a picture of the orchid garden in the Singapore Botanical Gardens, sorry about...

Singapore, Day 2
Another busy day!  We had the most amazing breakfast here at home—tons of tropical fruit that neither Dave or I had ever eaten before, including Dragonfruit/rambutans, mangosteen, and longan, and then roti canai, which is a type of thin pancake served with different curries (fish and mutton today) or dal.  Next Dave and I decided a workout would be a good idea, so we took ourselves down to...

First day!
Today was a big first day.  It was my (Suzanne’s) first day in Singapore, my first day in Asia, and my first day in a tropical country.  Dave’s been here before so he had a little bit more of an idea of what to expect.  I woke up around 5 am, ravenously hungry and unable to sleep.  Luckily, we had brought a couple boxes of granola bars along for just this kind of thing.  After I ate...

We're in Singapore now.
Hi, Dave here.  Not much to report at the moment, other than that we are safe and sound on the other side of the world.  Here, it’s 1:30 AM, Friday the 26th of June.  If you are reading this right now in the U.S. on the east coast, it’s 1:30 PM on Thursday the 25th, I believe. All in all, while combined flying time was loooong (total around 23 hours in the air, not including layovers)...

Passing Through Narita
We were exhausted by our flight from D.C. (~13.5 hours) but, Narita was still fun.  We had about an hour and a half to toodle around. The first thing we did, after taking care of some necessities, was head to the massage chairs. That’s me, feeling pretty relaxed after a ten-minute session in the chair.  These things work quite well.  I recommend trying one if you are ever in Narita.  For...

On Our Way!
We are in the airport in Washington D.C.  As I mentioned previously, we had a last-minute cancellation yesterday for our flight to Narita (via Chicago) from Boston.  So, I scrambled to call up United and get things sorted out.  Luckily, we were fine…but when we were waiting in line this morning at check-in it became apparent that many other folks either hadn’t gotten the message or...

The night before.
Dave here.  I’m kinda beat.  I spent all day trying to get some last minute items dealt with at work, as one is wont to do before a long trip like this…how long, you ask?  We’ll be gone until the 11th of July, so about 2 and a half weeks. Another crappy thing that happened today was that United called and left a message on my phone that our flight from Boston to Chicago (a.k.a....
